Authorities uncover manifold abuses by taxi drivers

Budapest, August 17 (MTI) – Taking round-about routes, gaming the taxi clock and failing to provide receipts and change are among the manifold abuses uncovered by the Budapest transport authorities checking on the habits of taxi drivers in the capital.

Business daily Világgazdaság on Monday reported that the authority (BKK) had found lots of drivers flouting regulations in spite of inspections. Two out of every three checks uncovered one rule or another being broken, the paper said.

Typically the BKK carries out between 250 and 300 inspections every month and it uncovered between 159 and 205 abuses each month between May and July this year.
