Statement of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Budapest on the occasion of State Sovereignty Day

Two years ago, on September 20, 2023, the rule-of-law throughout the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the restoration of the state sovereignty was ensured.

“On September 19, 2023, a counter-terror operation was launched to eliminate large-scale acts of sabotage committed in the territory of Azerbaijan by occupying forces of Armenia, thus restoring the Republic of Azerbaijan to its internationally-recognized borders. The operation, which lasted only 23 hours and ended on September 20, fully restored the sovereignty of my country”, – says Ambassador Taghizadeh.

For every nation, owning its destiny, creating and developing its independence is the greatest achievement and the most important goal. Despite decades of foreign military occupation of considerable portion of its territory, the determination of Azerbaijan’s people to strengthen its independence and sovereignty remained steadfast.

Liberating territories previously under foreign occupation has paved the way towards rapprochement in the South Caucasus. The Washington Agreements, signed this year as part of the visit of President Ilham Aliyev to the United States have become a logical culmination of the process started in 2020 and 2023. This gives impetus to the formation of long-term development in the South Caucasus, creating ample opportunities for the international partners.
