After scooping the award for Hungarian Team of the Year in 2015, the men’s national football team are again in the running for the same accolade as voted for by Hungarian sport journalists.
The selection of candidates to be presented with prizes at the M4 Sport – Sportsperson of the Year 2016 gala ceremony is now underway.
The Hungarian Sport Journalists’ Association (MSÚSZ) has decreeed there will be nine voting categories; sportsman, sportswoman, team, coach and footballer of the year, the first four of which will be repeated in the field of disability sport.
Last year’s Team of the Year award was merited on the strength of beating Norway and qualifying for their first football European Championship in 44 years, an achievement which saw Bernd Storck’s squad edge out the hockey- and women’s volleyball national teams. 2016 now sees the football team in with a chance of defending their title having reached the last 16 of the continental tournament in France.
