Breaking News – FM Szijjarto: interior minister ordered to prepare border closure
Budapest, June 17 (MTI) – Hungary’s government has ordered the interior minister to prepare the erection of a 4-metre fence along Hungary’s border with Serbia, the foreign minister said.
The preparations should be completed by next Wednesday, Peter Szijjarto said after a cabinet meeting.
The fence will be set up along a 175-kilometre section. The move does not contradict international obligations nor is it in breach of any international contracts, Szijjarto said.
At a meeting of European Union interior ministers on Tuesday it had transpired that Hungary was the hardest hit by immigration among all member states, he added.
Meanwhile lawmakers are holding a debate in parliament over a government-sponsored amendment to the law on migration, which would tighten rules for receiving refugee status in Hungary.
