Motorists in Budapest should prepare for traffic jams and road restrictions in November, as maintenance work at one of the capital’s busiest junctions is set to disrupt traffic for almost four weeks.
Busy Budapest junction will undergo repairs
Track repairs will take place at the junction of Bocskai Road and Bartók Béla Road, around Kosztolányi Dezső Square, from 7 AM on Monday, 2 November, until 27 November, according to Budapest Közút. During the works, a construction site will occupy the centre of the junction, forcing vehicles to pass around it.
On Bocskai Road, two narrowed lanes will remain open in each direction, while traffic on Bartók Béla Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction. The temporary layout is expected to slow traffic, particularly on Bocskai Road and around Kosztolányi Dezső Square. Drivers heading towards the city centre will also face a change to their usual routes.
Left turns temporarily prohibited
Motorists travelling towards the centre on Bocskai Road will not be able to turn left onto Bartók Béla Road in the middle of the junction. Instead, they must continue straight across Bartók Béla Road and use a temporary left-turn facility near the service road at Kosztolányi Dezső Square. They can then reach Bartók Béla Road via the service road.
Budapest Közút has urged drivers to approach the junction with extra care and use alternative routes where possible.

Tram services and replacement buses
The repairs will also affect public transport. Between 2 and 27 November, trams 19 and 49 will run on shortened routes, terminating at Móricz Zsigmond Square instead of continuing to Kelenföld Railway Station. Replacement buses operating under route number 19 will serve the section between Kelenföld railway station and Móricz Zsigmond Square.
For journeys towards central Budapest, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) recommends using metro line M4 or buses 7, 58, 114, 213 and 214. Passengers are advised to check timetables and plan their journeys in advance, using the BudapestGO app for route planning and real-time travel information. The works are scheduled to finish on 27 November, with delays expected in the surrounding area throughout the construction period.
