Budapest police captain’s service vehicle hits two women on Budapest embankment

On 12 February 2025, at approximately 6:40 PM, a police chief officer’s service vehicle was involved in an accident with two pedestrians on Jane Haining Embankment in Budapest’s 5th district. The incident occurred when the pedestrians suddenly stepped in front of the moving police vehicle.

According to the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK), one of the pedestrians escaped unharmed, while the other sustained minor injuries that were treated at the scene and expected to heal within eight days. The accident investigators determined that the pedestrians, who were crossing the road illegally, were at fault for the incident, Blikk writes.

Both women admitted their responsibility during questioning and were issued on-the-spot fines. The police captain operating the vehicle was not found to have committed any offences. The exact extent of damage to the service vehicle has not yet been determined.

The BRFK emphasised that the pedestrians’ illegal road crossing was the primary cause of the accident. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of following traffic rules and using designated crossings to ensure pedestrian safety in urban areas.
