Budapest’s urban beach kicks off summer with free opening weekend!

Summer is officially arriving at Budapest’s very own urban beach. Lupa Beach, known as the Hungarian capital’s answer to the seaside, will open its gates for the 2025 season with a free three-day festival from 6 to 8 June, featuring concerts, DJs, and family-friendly programs.

The launch was initially planned for late May, but due to unpredictable weather forecasts, organisers postponed the opening by a week, turizmus.com writes. Visitors could already warm up for summer with a free concert by iconic Hungarian singer Mariann Falusi on 5 June, held at the Rosé Los Tiki Bar.

Music, activities, and a Caribbean vibe

Dubbed “Budapest’s seaside,” Lupa Beach has been growing in popularity and scale for the past decade. With imported white sand, swaying palm trees, and a vibrant mix of music, culture, and gastronomy, the location has become a summer staple for locals and tourists alike. From oysters to grilled sausages, beachgoers can enjoy a wide range of food options, alongside a jam-packed entertainment lineup.

According to Origo’s report, the free weekend begins Friday with daytime parties and kids’ workshops, followed by a variety of DJ performances across multiple venues:

  • Saturday: Infragandhi DJ set at MyCar Beach
  • Sunday: Bia Bréda at Lupacabana, Belushi at Waikiki
  • Monday (Whit Monday): Serrano DJ set at The Lounge, and a smooth jazz guitar session by Zsolt Német at Divino

Summer highlights and family focus

Two major events are also in the works for later this summer: the Mamma Mia Beach Party during the “Night of Beaches” celebration, and the high-energy Shake It on the Beach party in late August.

Lupa Beach is especially welcoming to families with children. A new initiative this year gives kids two coupons with every children’s ticket, allowing them to join themed activities while parents relax. In addition, Lupa Kids Day Camps return once schools let out, offering weekday programs in a safe, fun environment.

Watersports central

Beyond the sun and sand, Lupa Beach is a hub for watersports. It boasts the largest wakeboard centre in Central Europe, plus facilities for paddleboarding, sailing lessons, beach volleyball, and even electric surfing. Popular water rides like banana boats and inflatable doughnuts are also available, courtesy of Quadro Watersports.

Getting there made easy

Located at the gateway to the Danube Bend, Lupa Beach combines natural beauty with easy accessibility. In 2025, a new electric shuttle service will run from the nearby Békásmegyer and Budakalász HÉV stations, while a bike path and secured bicycle parking provide eco-friendly transport options.
