Civil groups call on PM to withdraw support from EC over TTIP
Budapest, June 22 (MTI) – Over 50 civil groups have called on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán not to support a European Union proposition seeking member states to confirm their authorisation to the European Commission concerning the community’s free trade agreement with the US (TTIP).
Signatories to the open letter said in a statement on Wednesday that available information on the planned agreement suggest that the deal would “undermine achievements in environmental and health protection, food safety and employee rights”.
The subject is expected to be discussed by EU heads of government on June 28.
The document was signed by civil organisations such as Greenpeace Hungary, the Federation of Hungarian Environmentalists, the Batthyány Circle of Professors, and the Trade Union Federation of Electricity Workers.
