Customs Officials Seize Almost 200kg Of Eels At Liszt Ferenc
(MTI) – Hungarian customs officials seized 183kg of eels from two Chinese nationals at Liszt Ferenc International Airport on Saturday.
The National Tax and Customs Office (NAV) said on its Facebook page that the Chinese travellers, who arrived on a flight from Moscow, said they wanted to bring live fish into the country but did not have any of the necessary paperwork.
The common eels found in their luggage are on a list of endangered wild species and require a special export and import permit, which the travellers did not possess.
NAV said the eight foam boxes filled with transparent larval “glass eels”, considered a delicacy, had a market value of about 120 million forints (EUR 390,000)
