Day Of Hungarian Heroes Commemorated
Budapest, May 24 (MTI) – The heroes of the two world wars provided an example of patriotism, deputy prime minister Zsolt Semjen said at a commemoration of the Day of Hungarian Heroes in Ajka today.
Speaking at another commemoration in Papa, Speaker of Parliament Laszlo Kover said “we must always stand prepared to defend our country and our nation.” Kover opened on Saturday an exhibition honouring the memory of the local hussar regiment on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One.
The last Sunday of May was declared the Day of Hungarian Heroes in 1925. The holiday was not observed after WWII. It has been marked under a law approved by parliament in June 2001.
