Hungarian defence forces transport injured victims from North Macedonia to Hungary

The Hungarian Defence Forces (HDF) are transporting additional injured victims of the weekend’s fire in North Macedonia to Hungary for treatment, Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky announced on Facebook on Tuesday.

Szalay-Bobrovniczky recalled the “horrific tragedy” that struck North Macedonia, where an explosion at a nightclub in the early hours of Sunday claimed the lives of 59 young people and left at least 150 others injured. He stated that an HDF Airbus A319 transport aircraft was already en route to pick up the patients, who would be flown in two rounds to the North Pest Centre Hospital – Military Hospital for further medical care.

According to the minister’s post, the Hungarian Defence Forces last assisted North Macedonia in August of last year. At that time, in response to the Skopje government’s request for international aid, Hungary deployed two helicopters to help combat wildfires raging in the southwestern part of the Balkan country.
