EC decides against triggering infringement due to tobacco supply arrangements
Budapest, August 3 (MTI) – The European Commission will not go ahead with an infringement procedure against Hungary due to the state’s exclusive concession to supply the country’s tobacco shops.
The commission accepted the government’s argument that National Tobacco Supply Company (OBDE) does not violate EU competition rules, MTI learnt from sources in Brussels.
János Lázár, the strategic cabinet chief, confirmed that the Directorate-General for Competition will not be launching an infringement procedure on the issue.
