Emergency landing in Budapest: Ryanair flight to Sofia returns shortly after takeoff due to technical issue

A Ryanair flight bound for Sofia was forced to return to Budapest shortly after takeoff on Tuesday evening due to a technical issue that prompted the crew to declare an emergency. The incident involved flight FR5570, operated by a Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

According to AIRportal.hu, the aircraft took off from Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport but soon experienced a loud bang from one of the engines—possibly caused by a bird strike. As a precaution, the pilots decided to turn the plane around.

The aircraft circled in the area south of Budapest, near Inárcs, before safely landing at 9:50 PM. Airport authorities and emergency services inspected the aircraft upon landing.

According to the Facebook post of AIRportal.hu, Budapest Airport confirmed the incident, stating that the necessary safety checks were carried out and passengers were later transported to Sofia on a replacement flight. Importantly, the airport’s operations were not disrupted during the emergency procedures.

Despite the alarming nature of the mid-air incident, all passengers and crew remained safe, and the situation was handled swiftly and professionally by the airline and airport services.
