EP Elections – Liberals withdraw from EP elections
Budapest, April 9 (MTI) – The Hungarian Liberal Party (MLP) will not run in the European parliamentary elections, the party’s leader, Gabor Fodor, said on Wednesday.
The party’s executives decided at a meeting that since the leftist opposition party alliance has rejected calls to extend cooperation in the April national election to the EP elections, the MLP will withdraw its participation.
The Liberals, however, said that although they respect the left’s decision, it is not a good one, as it risks allowing radical nationalist Jobbik to become the second strongest party in the election.
