A 44-year-old man from Tolna County has been arrested by Hungary’s Counter Terrorism Centre (TEK) and the National Bureau of Investigation (KR NNI) after he posted a video online threatening to assassinate the Prime Minister. Authorities have charged him with preparation for homicide.

On June 10, the man published videos on a video-sharing platform in which he explicitly threatened to kill the Prime Minister “with his own hands” and spoke of carrying out a public execution. A concerned citizen reported the disturbing content to the police after seeing it on social media, police said.

The case was transferred to the Cybercrime Division of the KR NNI on June 11. Working swiftly with TEK, cyber investigators were able to identify the man within hours—confirming he was both the person in the video and the one who uploaded it.

The arrest took place at 1:30 AM on June 12 at the suspect’s home in Tolna County. During the house search, officers seized his electronic devices, including the mobile phone used to record the threats. Several other threatening videos were also discovered, along with a 63 cm sword with a 43 cm blade, which was confiscated as evidence.
