Arriving at Budapest Airport? Here’s what to know about taxis to downtown

Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport is set for a major shake-up in its taxi services, with both the long-standing Főtaxi and Uber’s local partner, F Mobilitás Kft., winning the right to serve passengers from 2025 to 2030.

Főtaxi secures long-term airport role

The Budapest Airport selected the two providers through a multi-stage, professional tender aimed at ensuring reliable, high-quality transport for its record-breaking passenger numbers. In 2024, the airport handled over 17.6 million passengers, and figures for 2025 are expected to break new records, AIRportal.hu writes.

Főtaxi, Budapest’s most experienced airport taxi provider with 14 years of service, has once again secured its role as the primary operator. Its drivers will continue to pick up passengers from the familiar terminal front points.

“The airport’s taxi service is a key touchpoint for arriving travellers, so it is essential that our partners provide high-quality, reliable, and appropriately scaled service,” said Markus Klaushofer, Deputy Commercial Director at Budapest Airport.

Dr. Roland Károlyi, CEO of Főtaxi, welcomed the result, noting, “This tender clearly confirms that stability, the professionalism of our drivers, and a service-focused approach continue to offer long-term value.”
