Gordon Ramsay, arguably the world’s most famous, and unmistakably Scottish, celebrity chef, is marking his 59th birthday in Budapest. While taking a leisurely stroll through the city centre, he unexpectedly found himself in a rather curious predicament – and shared a silent video of the moment with his followers.

The star chef’s awkward encounter with his “own” restaurant

On Sunday evening, a video surfaced online showing Ramsay seated on a chair at the terrace of a Hungarian restaurant called Hungarian Hell’s Kitchen. The eatery, tucked away on Kígyó Street, sits roughly midway between Ferenciek Square and the Pest-side foot of the Elizabeth Bridge.

The reasons behind Ramsay’s visit remain something of a mystery, though Blikk was quick to point out that he himself runs a restaurant called Hell’s Kitchen. For more than two decades, since 2005, viewers across the globe have tuned in to his American reality cooking show of the same name, in which Ramsay presides, famously fiery, over aspiring chefs.

Ramsay captioned his video simply: “things you find in Budapest,” clarifying that he neither dined there nor tried the lamb sauce at this “unofficial” establishment.
