The English magazine Creative Review has rated and reviewed the slogans of the 24 national teams competing at the European Football Championship. In a close competition, the Hungarian slogan eventually triumphed, index.hu reports.
The slogans, chosen by public vote, appear on the national teams’ buses. The Hungarian slogan is Ria Ria Hungária which also features on the bus in English, as Ry-Ry-Hungary.
Here are the Creative Review’s ratings:
Hungary – Ria Ria Hungária! – Ry-Ry-Hungary! 9/10
The Creative Review’s reasoning: “As far as I can tell, the ‘Ria’ doesn’t translate into anything – it’s just a childlike way of turning ‘Hungaria’ into a chant. This is excellent and shows a good understanding of how slogans work.”
None of the countries got 10/10. Hungary tied with Turkey and Albania with 9/10 each, and Wales got a mention for including dragons. In the end, the Hungarian slogan was announced the absolute winner.
