Hungarians’ trust in the European Union as a place of stability in a troubled world has surged to 80 percent, well above the EU average of 75 percent, according to the latest Eurobarometer survey published on Wednesday.
Trust among Europeans rose by 8 percentage points since the last survey in October-November 2025, but Hungarian support jumped 14 points in the same period.
The survey also found that 81 percent of Hungarians see EU membership as beneficial — 7 percentage points higher than the European average. New job opportunities (41 percent) and economic growth (37 percent) were cited as the main benefits.

When asked about EU priorities, 36 percent of Hungarians said the bloc should focus on energy independence, followed by defence and security (34 percent), competitiveness (32 percent), and food security and agriculture (32 percent).

However, only 79 percent of Hungarians reported satisfaction with their quality of life, below the EU average of 83 percent. Financial struggles remain a concern, with 48 percent saying they regularly have difficulty paying bills and 40 percent occasionally facing financial problems.
Hungarians defined a high quality of life as access to high-quality health care (49 percent), financial stability (46 percent), and good physical and mental health (40 percent).
The survey was conducted between April 9 and May 4, polling 26,421 people across the EU’s 27 member states.
