Budapest, January 24 (MTI) – Some 186,000 Hungarian women have participated in a programme dubbed “Women 40”, introduced in 2011, allowing them to retire early, with a full pension, after 40 years in the workforce, the state secretary for family affairs said on Tuesday.
About 46,000 of those women have now passed retirement age, Katalin Novák told a press conference.
Women are allowed to apply up to eight years of child-leave toward reaching the 40-year threshold.
Last year’s budget allocated about 200 billion forints (EUR 640m) for pensions for the early retirees in the “Women 40” scheme, she said.
