Farm gate prices climb by 2.4 percent in May on dearer crops
Budapest, July 12 (MTI) – Farm gate prices rose by an annual 2.4 percent in May, climbing on higher crop prices, figures released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) show.
Crop prices rose by 5.4 percent, while the price of live animals and animal products dropped by 2.9 percent.
Grain prices were up 4.6 percent as wheat prices dropped by 14 percent but maize prices rose by 18 percent. Farmers got 42.6 forints (EUR 0,13) for a kilo of wheat and 45.6 forints for a kilo of maize during the month, KSH said.
Fruit prices fell by 9.6 percent and vegetable prices rose by 9.2 percent.
Live animal prices slipped by 1.2 percent and the price of animal products dropped by 6.7 percent.
Milk prices were down by 11 percent at 69 forints per litre.
