The Fidesz parliamentary group has rejected the government’s statements about the earlier commissioning of the operation of the M6 motorway, accusing the Tisza Party of handing Hungary’s strategic sectors over to foreign economic interests.
The opposition party’s parliamentary group issued a statement to the Hungarian News Agency (MTI) in response to comments made by Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy in Parliament on Monday concerning the operation of the section of the M6 motorway between Dunaújváros and Érd-tető.
Fidesz: “Not a single word of this is true”
According to Fidesz, Vitézy claimed that the previous government had unlawfully commissioned the Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development Company (MKIF Zrt.) to operate the Érd-Dunaújváros section of the M6 motorway between 2026 and 2037.
The opposition party said Vitézy had also claimed that MKIF had agreed to carry out the same task for HUF 149 billion, which Fidesz described as “extremely overpriced”, while the M6 Duna Concession Zrt., which has operated the motorway so far and is supported by Vitézy, offered to do so for HUF 44 billion.
“Not a single word of this is true,” Fidesz wrote.
The parliamentary group added that the previous government had made no decision on the concession-based operation of the affected section of the M6 and had therefore not commissioned MKIF to carry out the work.
Fidesz also disputed the HUF 149 billion figure, saying that MKIF had never offered to perform the work for that amount.
Fidesz questions what the HUF 44 billion offer includes
“It is also not true that MKIF Zrt. agreed to do this for HUF 149 billion; Dávid Vitézy and his colleagues made up this figure,” the statement said. Fidesz also questioned what is included in the HUF 44 billion offer from the foreign consortium behind M6 Duna, which is supported by Vitézy.
The party argued that the company’s current contract, which is now expiring, did not include major renovations of the road surface and pavement structure or the renovation of bridges. By contrast, Fidesz said, MKIF’s concession agreement covering other motorways includes these obligations as well.

Fidesz accuses Tisza government of “handing over” motorways
The Fidesz parliamentary group accused Vitézy of lying and claimed that the Tisza government was preparing to place the operation of Hungarian motorways into foreign hands. It argued that foreign companies are also behind M6 Duna Concession Zrt. and claimed that “Péter Magyar and the Tisza Party will soon seek to hand all concessions over to foreigners”.
In its conclusion, Fidesz accused the Tisza Party of beginning to hand Hungary’s strategic sectors over to foreign economic interests. “Instead of a sovereign, independent country, Péter Magyar and his government are once again putting Hungary on a colonial footing,” the opposition party said.

The M6 should never have been built. It was commissioned under an MSZP government via a PPP arrangement on the basis of traffic levels that haven’t been realised since it was built. The annual franchise fee was in excess of the cost of maintenance in light of the paltry traffic figures and the low economic utility to the country. Alas, that is now water under the bridge, the motorway was built and now its cost effective maintenance is the greatest priority. It’s probably the cheapest Hungarian motorway to maintain due to the aforementioned low volume of traffic
And no, MKIF don’t need any more business, they have more than enough.
