Budapest, March 8 (MTI) – Ruling Fidesz calls on Socialist Szeged Mayor László Botka and the Socialist Party to state their roles in the events around Szeged construction company Szeviép “which suggest dark corruption”, Fidesz’s communications chief told a press briefing on Wednesday.
Fidesz demands answers regarding the whereabouts of 11 billion forints (EUR 35,39m) that disappeared from the accounts of insolvent Szeviép, ruining hundreds of small companies. “According to reports”, Hidvéghi added, this money had a central role in the Socialists’ illegal campaign funding. Additionally, Szeviép is currently being investigated for fraudulent insolvency practices, he said.
Scandals are proliferating around the Socialists, with the OLAF report uncovering irregularities regarding the Budapest metro construction and now the Szeviép issue coming to light, Hidvéghi said.
The Socialists told MTI in reaction to Hidvéghi’s statement that the scandal of Szeviép actually had links to Fidesz. “No matter how hard Fidesz tries to discredit Botka, the Szeged municipality has not had any contracts with Szeviép under his leadership”, the Socialists said.
