Fidesz’ daily paper can regret spreading lies about Jobbik
According to the first-instance, not yet final verdict of Budapest Metropolitan Court, Fidesz-related daily Magyar Idők will have to publish a correction of an article making gravely false statements about the largest opposition party.
Referring to a Telegraph article but, as the court procedure revealed, quoting it incorrectly, the newspaper claimed that Jobbik was financed from Russia and that the party, along with other European organizations, was loaned several million HUF by a Russian bank.
Typically of the government party’s media manipulations, the Fidesz-related paper did not even try to prove its obviously false statement, so the Budapest Metropolitan Court had no choice but to pass a verdict to oblige the daily newspaper, which functions as the government’s trumpet, to publish a correction.
