A fire broke out at an entertainment venue on Kazinczy Street in Budapest’s District VII on Thursday evening, damaging around 200 square metres of the premises. Everyone inside managed to leave safely, and the flames did not spread to the flats above.

Fire broke out at an entertainment venue

Márk Máté Kisdi, spokesman for the Budapest Disaster Management Directorate, told Hungarian news agency MTI that firefighters tackled the blaze using several jets of water.

The fire damaged furnishings and wall coverings inside the venue. It also spread to a small section of the basement, but did not reach the residential flats on the floors above. The windows and doors of the apartments were affected, however. Authorities have not yet established how many people were inside the entertainment venue when the fire started.

Fire contained before spreading to flats

The incident took place on Kazinczy Street in Budapest’s seventh district, an area well known for its nightlife and concentration of bars and entertainment venues. Firefighters brought the flames under control using multiple water jets. Although the blaze affected a substantial area of the venue, the fire service confirmed that it did not spread into the residential properties above.

All occupants evacuated the premises safely, according to the disaster management spokesman. No further details about possible injuries or the cause of the fire were provided in the available reports. The extent of the damage to the venue and the circumstances that led to the fire have not yet been clarified. The incident highlights the challenges of fire safety in Budapest’s busy nightlife district, where entertainment venues are often located in buildings that also contain residential accommodation.
