Fish festival to start this weekend at Lake Balaton

Get ready to savour delicious culinary delights, enjoy captivating dance performances, live concerts, and fun family activities at the Siófok Fish Festival, taking place from 10th to 12th October in this charming lakeside town.

Now in its twelfth year, the festival held in the heart of the town features a professional judging panel, including celebrity chef Frigyes Vomberg and Fodor Noel, the 2023 Hungarian Bocuse d’Or champion. They will select the very best fish street food of 2025 — and everyone is invited to sample the winning dishes.

The festivities include a cooking competition and a fish food contest called Halpiknik and Halánkságok, dance showcases, a playhouse for children, interactive fish-themed workshops, and performances by renowned artists such as György Korda and Klári Balázs, the National Philharmonic Orchestra, Follow the Flow, and the Rudán Joe Band.

This year, Hungary’s “fish cities”—Baja, Mohács, Paks, and Szeged—will be featured in the Main Square with their own special fish dishes, while the Siófok Vocational Training Centre and a tourism school from Poreč, Croatia, celebrate their new student exchange programme with a joint cooking event.

Launched in 2013, the Siófok Fish Festival was created to become a beloved tradition that champions the beauty of Lake Balaton and the rich flavours of fish.

  1. With their Balaton prices they can eat their stinking fish themselves…not even going anywhere near Balaton-it’s a tourist trap!
