Former defence minister Lajos Für dies
Former defence minister Lajos Für died in Budapest in the early hours of Tuesday, the Military Hospital of Budapest told MTI.
He was 82 years old. Für served in Hungary’s first democratically elected government from 1990 to 1994, led by Jozsef Antall and then by Peter Boross.
Lajos Für was born in Egyházasrádóc in 21st of December, 1930. He participated in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.
He was a founding member of the Hungarian Democratic Forum (MDF), a key force in the country’s peaceful transition to democracy in 1989-1990, and chaired the party from 1994 to 1996.
