Márton Nagy, a former minister in former PM Viktor Orbán’s government, has reportedly moved to Switzerland and has been working for a Zurich investment bank since the summer.

Márton Nagy, who served as Hungary’s national economy minister before the April 2026 election, has moved to Switzerland and has been working for a Zurich-based investment bank since the summer, Válasz Online reports.

According to the publication, Nagy has made it clear to people in his close circle that he has permanently left Hungarian politics. He is also reportedly no longer in regular contact with the leadership of Fidesz, which is now in opposition.

Válasz Online reached Nagy by telephone, but he declined to comment on the reports. His former ministry has not been reported as confirming the move either.

Nagy reportedly cuts ties with Hungarian politics

The reported departure is notable because Viktor Orbán recently referred to Nagy’s intellect in a speech in Kötcse. The remarks could have suggested that the former minister is still part of the strategic circle around the former prime minister. However, Válasz Online’s sources say Nagy has now definitively moved away from Hungarian politics.

According to the publication’s background conversations, the decision followed a serious health crisis last year. Nagy was reportedly in immediate danger to his life in July 2025 and subsequently underwent major surgery at the Városmajor Heart and Vascular Centre in Budapest.

One of his distant relatives told Válasz Online that Nagy had already wanted to leave politics at that point, but circumstances prevented him from doing so. Just days after the April 2026 election, Nagy also deactivated his Facebook page.

From government minister to Zurich investment banking

Nagy served as national economy minister in Orbán’s government before the 2026 election. He had previously held senior economic positions and became one of the most prominent figures in the government’s economic policy.

His reported move to Switzerland comes amid a wider departure of former government figures from frontline Hungarian politics. Former foreign minister and foreign economic affairs minister Péter Szijjártó announced in July that he would give up his parliamentary mandate and take a position at Chinese carmaker BYD.

Meanwhile, Viktor Orbán’s daughter Ráhel Orbán and her family moved to the United States in 2025 after she was admitted to an American university. Her children began the 2025/2026 academic year there. Nagy himself was also recently reported by 24.hu to have appeared on a South Korean holiday island during one of his official trips.
