Four men died and several others were injured when the car they were travelling in plunged into the river Repce from a bridge on the outskirts of Kapuvár, in north-western Hungary, on Thursday.
According to local police, the driver was probably a people smuggler carrying illegal migrants in his car. Eight people have been hospitalised, the police said, adding that both the victims and the injured passengers were young men of not yet identified nationality.
Zoltán Csillag, the communications officer of the National Ambulance Service, told MTI that 12 young men were injured in the accident, four of whom died at the scene. One man was resuscitated and taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter. Another one man was taken to hospital in Sopron and Győr with serious injuries and six with minor injuries.
