The Danube Bend is close to Budapest, and you can reach it in less than one hour by car or train. You may find the medieval castle of Visegrád, the illustrious Roman Catholic Archbishop’s Cathedral in Esztergom, or the charming town of Vác there. Impress Magazin collected some amazing free beaches in the Danube Bend, where you can cool down after your tour in any of the above-mentioned places.

According to their article, water quality is excellent at the following six free beaches in the Danube Bend. Being one of the most beautiful places in Hungary, the Danube Bend has several sandy, pebbly, or grassy beaches, and some are free to enter for everybody. Some even have a panoramic view of historical and cultural heritage like the Medieval Castle of Visegrád, the former seat of the Hungarian monarchs.

Kisoroszi

The northernmost point of the Island of Szentendre is a nomadic paradise. The pebbly beach is 600 metres long, the panorama includes fresh Danube water, mountains in the background, tall trees and silence. That is where the Danube splits into two branches. The beach is free, but you cannot set up your tent and spend the night there. That is only allowed in the local camping site.

Nagymaros

The beach in Nagymaros is 200 metres long but with a panoramic view of the Visegrád Mountains and the Rennaisance castle of the Danube Bend town, serving as a seat for the Hungarian monarchs between the 14th and 16th centuries. The beach is sandy-pebbly, but there are few trees there, so you should not forget your tent at home. Because of the boats and ships, you cannot swim too far from the shore. Moreover, you should pay attention to kayaks and canoes as well, because that section is popular.
