New milestone reached at Hungaroring
Hungary’s only Formula One race track, the Hungaroring, has undergone the most significant transformation in its history with the main building and the main grandstand set to be renovated by 2026. The developer is the consortium of Market Építő Ltd. and Bayer Construct Ltd., while the subcontractor executing the asphalting of the main straight was SWIETELSKY Magyarország Ltd.
According to Hungaroring, the classic layout of the Hungaroring will remain unchanged after the revamp. However, the main straight asphalt cover has received an upgrade to meet the highest international standards, just like it did in previous years.

In total, 860 tonnes of a specially formulated mix — containing bitumen with a higher softening point — were applied. The mixture was predetermined by SWIETELSKY’s experts. These machines were supplied by two so-called “beschikers,” which helped minimise longitudinal waves and maintain a uniform texture. Given the unique requirements, a large-scale trial installation was conducted this year to ensure the mix could be laid as quickly as possible.
