French, German, Dutch police to watch over Sziget festivalgoers this year

French, German and Dutch police officers will work alongside Hungarian peers at the Sziget Festival held between 6 and 11 August, the Budapest police headquarters (BRFK) said on Wednesday.

BRFK spokesman Soma Csécsi said foreign officers will work alongside uniformed Hungarian policemen to aid communication and act as a point of contact with the Hungarian police. Foreign officers will have no mandate to take measures on their own.

Uniformed policemen will assist in maintaining public safety as well as aid and direct traffic, Csécsi said. Besides them, BRFK will also have plain-clothes officers on site to prevent and break up criminal activities, and to take measures if necessary, Csécsi said.

Uniformed policemen will mostly patrol during daytime, Csécsi said. Victims will have to report the crimes committed at the 3rd district police station, he added. BRFK is also cooperating with the civil guard and various bodies of the 3rd district municipality, the spokesman said.
