Got an email from Wizz Air? It might be a glitch

A technical error led to Wizz Air customers receiving erroneous emails about flight delays. Passengers are advised to disregard the message.
The incorrect message
Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air may have surprised thousands of travellers with an incorrect email notification. The unexpected message apologised for a delay caused by “operational issues.” The Hungarian-language email stated: “We understand the inconvenience caused by your delayed flight due to unforeseen circumstances and sincerely apologise for any disruption to your travel plans.”
The surprising admission may have reached hundreds of thousands of former passengers, regardless of whether they currently have bookings or even travelled with Wizz Air in recent months. The email is likely most concerning to those who are actually flying soon, as it creates uncertainty about whether the alert should be taken seriously.
Apology for the misinformation
The company issued a statement warning affected customers and noted that travellers with upcoming flights will receive direct and individualised updates about their itineraries, the airline told MTI. “Due to a technical error, Wizz Air customers mistakenly received an email stating their flight was delayed. The airline asks passengers to disregard this message,” the statement read. “Passengers flying in the coming days are being given special attention from Wizz Air’s customer service and have received—or will soon receive—individual notifications regarding their flights.”
The company also reminded customers that up-to-date flight information can be tracked by entering departure and arrival airports on the airline’s website under the Flight status section, or through the Wizz Air mobile app.

The airline apologised for the error and any inconvenience it may have caused.
Wizz Air shares take a nosedive
Wizz Air shares recently plummeted after the company reported a steep drop in profits. As we wrote earlier, the airline’s stock suffered its worst one-day tumble ever on Thursday following the release of new financial results. The share price closed at GBP 16.69 on Wednesday, then fell nearly 28% the next day. Details: Significant Wizz Air share drop after profit plummet revealed: investors frustrated, airline in trouble?
CEO József Váradi cited ongoing engine issues as the main reason for the downturn. Wizz Air had taken delivery of new aircraft equipped with Pratt & Whitney engines, which later required lengthy inspections and repairs due to a material defect.
“Despite a favourable macroeconomic environment, Wizz Air has been unable to increase its profit. Oil prices remain low, and the euro-to-dollar exchange rate has been favourable in terms of fuel costs. But the company’s aggressive growth is becoming a problem: they’d be in a more stable position if they expanded at a slower pace,” Gábor Bukta, head of research at Concorde, told G7.
Wizz Air struggles to keep up… with itself
In January, the CEO told Reuters that engine problems would likely persist for another two to three years, despite previous estimates suggesting a shorter timeline. He recently told Bloomberg that 2027 is now expected to be the turning point.
The airline previously held a special press briefing to outline its preparations for the busy summer travel season, aiming to minimise delays and cancellations.
In recent years, Wizz Air has made headlines with its ambitious plans. Four years ago, it attempted to acquire EasyJet and promised to introduce long-range (XLR) aircraft by 2023. The first of that aircraft type was only recently delivered.
So far, Wizz Air has issued no official forecast for its 2026 fiscal year, further shaking investor confidence. According to stock market performance, the airline was the worst-performing European carrier over the past year.
