Government to make extraordinary announcements soon?
The government info will start at 11 am today, which is unusual. Therefore, some media outlets believe the cause of that weird date is some extraordinary announcements concerning the economy or fuel consumption.
Corporation tax in EUR or USD
The Hungarian Minister of Finance wrote today on his Facebook page that Hungarian companies are allowed in 2022 to pay their corporation tax in USD and EUR. However, this is probably NOT the big announcement the fifth Orbán administration plans for today.
Gergely Gulyás, the prime minister’s chief of staff, and Alexandra Szentkirályi, the government spokeswoman, will hold the government info today.
Telex.hu wrote that the last time the government info was on Saturday was almost one year earlier, on August 21, 2021. The government announced then that the fourth wave of the coronavirus was approaching, the Hungarian economy was flourishing, and there would be no Huxit.
Government announcement about fuel consumption, energy policies?
PM Viktor Orbán said on Friday that, regardless of what others say, the Hungarians should decide on their energy policies. Sanctions against Russia do not work, and October will be a watershed period. Provided Brussels does not act in time, there will be a war economy in Europe, Orbán added.
He said they would restart the Mátrai Power Plant obtained by the wealthiest Hungarian, Lőrinc Mészáros. Furthermore, the government forbade firewood export and currently analyses how they could reopen Hungarian lignite mines. However, as hvg.hu wrote, reopening mines is impossible because there are not enough colliers in Hungary, and it would take years until a new generation could be trained.
Meanwhile, Zsolt Hernádi, the CEO of MOL, said that there would be supply shortages if the government did not suspend the price caps, which are currently 480 HUF (EUR 1.19) per litre for cars with Hungarian license plates. That is because the import does not come to Hungary.

Apparently those who don’t fit into the energy consumption range should earn more, comforting words from the mouth of the PM. I kid you not.
