A large-scale street fight broke out between two Hungarian families in the town of Kerepes. Three people suffered injuries, witnesses report gunshots. Read on for more information about the violent incident.
On the evening of 21 May 2022, people reported gunshots from Gyál Street, Kerepes. The police wasted no time and rushed to the scene. There they found around 100 people in confrontation with each other. It turned out that two local families first started a verbal conflict which escalated quickly and soon some members even opted to use firearms. According to Blikk, police reports suggest these weapons were rifles and gas pistols.
The police intervened and tried their best to separate the fighting crowd, but they were still against each other’s throats.
Detailed report
After public order was restored and the two parties were at peace, all policemen put on bulletproof vests. This was because the gunshots previously mentioned came from a nearby building. Two men were hiding in one of the apartments. Police discovered two armed men who refused to come outside. Mobile task forces of the Counter-Terrorism Centre had to be called to the scene, Police.hu reports. To maintain public peace in the vicinity, police patrolled the area until no further action was needed.
At midnight, 22 May 2022 the two armed men – a father aged 50, and his 23-year-old son – were arrested, along with a 41-year-old man, who suffered severe gunshot injuries both on his chest and neck.
All three men were suspects, nevertheless, all denied the accusations. Two of the suspects even made complaints against their arrest. József Sz. sr. and László L. deliberately aimed and shot toward the opposing side. Ádám Sz. blindly shot into the crowd using his father’s firearms.
Suspect László L., a 26 and a 30-year-old man all suffered injuries due to the conflict.
The three arrested men, 50-year-old József Sz. sr., 23-year-old Ádám Sz. and 41-year-old László L. were taken into custody on suspicion of armed group aggravated assault. The prosecutor’s office did not see any reason to request their arrest, so they will be allowed to remain at large for the rest of the proceedings.
