Here’s what the Hungarian government spends money on in the middle of an epidemic

According to a Government Decree published on 23 April, the Hungarian Government allocated EUR 337 million to support certain causes. Here is where the money will go, and where they took it from.

Mfor noticed a recent Government Decree, in which EUR 337 million is being allocated in the budget. Certain amounts of money were withdrawn from various funds and were allocated to support others. Let us take a closer look.

Let us start with the sources where the government took the money from:

  • Central Residue Settlement Fund (- HUF 36.5 billion/- EUR 100 million)
  • Economic Protection Program (- HUF 63 billion/ – EUR 177 million)
  • Investment Preparation Fund (- HUF 400 billion/ – EUR 1.12 billion)
  • Funds for the operational support of local governments (- HUF 2.5 billion/ – EUR 7 million)

Where does all the money go?

  • Hungarian Defence Forces (HUF 6.8 billion/EUR 19 million)
  • Organisations of the Hungarian Ministry of Defence (HUF 1.66 billion/EUR 4.5 million)
  • Honvéd Hospital (HUF 2.2 billion/EUR 6 million)
  • Counter Terrorism Centre (HUF 3.5 billion/EUR 9.8 million)
  • The Directorate-General for Public Procurement and Supply (HUF 8.44 billion EUR 23.5 million)
  • National Sports Centres (HUF 1.1 billion/ EUR 3 million)
  • institutes of curative and preventive care (HUF 1.5 billion/EUR 4 million)
  • tenders for family policy issues (HUF 600 million/EUR 1.6 million)
  • the development of sports facilities (HUF 4.07 billion/EUR 11 million)
  • competitiveness-enhancing aids due to the coronavirus epidemic (HUF 50 billion/ EUR 140 million)
  • road network development (HUF 13 billion/ EUR 36.4 million)
  • the personnel expenses of capital, county, and district governments (HUF 1.5 billion/EUR 4 million)
  • railway network development (HUF 1 billion/EUR 2.8 million)
  • the protection of ecclesiastical built heritage and other investments (HUF 1.05 million/EUR 2,950)
  • Kiemelt Nemzetközi Sportesemény Stratégia (international sports events and strategy) – (HUF 768 million/EUR 2.156 million)

    That “6 million” is a bit more: +”institutes of curative and preventive care (EUR 4M)” =10M.

    Or you could also have compared the 14.5M for sports with EUR 39.2M for infrastructure: road + railway network development (EUR 36.4M + EUR 2.8M)

    How about taking care of the elderly? Fixing roads?
