Horrifying: sexual assault in Hungarian military academy
Terrifying stories have been uncovered regarding a teenage schoolboy being assaulted and sexually abused by his older schoolmates in Hungary, all taking place in the Hungarian government’s favourite military academy. The incident happened in May, but for some reason, the institution has not contacted the police until now.
Hvg reported a chilling incident that took place in Debrecen’s Károly Kratochvil military academy (boarding school) back in May. The Hungarian government is openly supportive of the military academy and has used it for marketing ends that verge on propaganda: that is why it is highly suspicious how the incident was meant to be covered up in May, just days before the European Parliamentary elections. After news outlets uncovered the case, it was the Ministry of Defence itself that proposed the launch of an investigation.
Helplessness
All we know is based on reports of highly confidential sources that asked to remain anonymous. According to them, an underage boy (aged below 16), presumably attending 9th grade, was tied down by others, making him unable to defend himself. This act of “tying down” seems to have been a common practice in the academy: whether it was a joke within a specific group of boys or a wider practice used to punish bad behaviour, we do not know.
The boy took part in this bizarre “game”, or practice, when an older schoolmate anally abused him, exploiting his inability to defend himself.
The exact circumstances of the abuse are unknown. The act was cut short when another schoolmate, a year older than the victim, entered the room and demanded the abusers to stop as it was “disgusting”. The abuser was subsequently “shoved out of the room”.
The incident was dealt with without the academy alerting the authorities. Five children were silently expelled following the school’s internal investigation
Politics
One of the sources found this attitude utterly outrageous. Eventually, this is what led them to “spilling the beans”. Hvg has contacted the Ministry of Defence, which was followed by the launch of an official police investigation.
All this is very unnerving because the incident happened in May, just before the European elections. The institution was a particular favourite of Fidesz and the Hungarian government; Tibor Benkő, the Minister of Defence himself was present at the end of year ceremony. It can be assumed that politics have played a part in the decision to cover up the incident as it was a particularly sensitive time for the governing party.
There is reasonable suspicion for multiple crimes committed, so the police have launched an investigation. Hopefully everything will be uncovered by the end of the investigation, but unfortunately, the police’s work is likely to be made difficult by the schoolchildren’s code of “loyalty” and “fraternity”: something the institution takes pride in conveying to students.
