Initially tackling the flames with two water jets, crews later escalated efforts to five foam and water jets as the scale of the fire became clear.
According to Telex, water tankers from nearby towns, including Zalaegerszeg and Nagyatád, have also joined the response, alongside heavy machinery assisting on site. Air quality being monitored, authorities looking for possible causes
Continuous air quality monitoring is being carried out by a mobile laboratory at the scene. According to unofficial information shared by the city’s mayor, no pollution levels exceeding safety thresholds have been detected so far.
Experts suggest that such fires are often linked to improperly discarded household waste, particularly lithium-containing batteries. These items are known to ignite easily and have been identified as a frequent cause of similar incidents, especially during bulk waste disposal periods. Firefighters remain on high alert as efforts continue to fully contain the blaze.
