Huge sucess – World Champion Hungarian Champagne
Huge success: Hungarian champagne was chosen as the World Champion Classic Brut from a Non-Traditional Grape at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championship (CSWWC) 2018, Forbes reports. Kreinbacher 2013 Prestige Brut in Magnum is officially one of the best champagnes in the entire world.
This is an impressive achievement. At this world championship, it is usually champagne houses with a hundred-year-long history in the business, while the Kreinbacher Estate was founded quite recently, in 2002. Moreover, Kreinbacher works not only with grape varieties traditionally cultivated to make champagne (e.g. Chardonnay), but they work with the non-traditional grape type: furmint as well.
The Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championship is a very prestigious competition, where only the best of the best can get selected. It is “The most respected, comprehensive and rigorous international sparkling wine competition in the world.” It is also the only international wine competition where only champagnes and sparkling wines are judged.
This is the third year that the Hungarian Kreinbacher Winery entered the world championship. They won a medal each year, but being chosen as the World Champion Classic Brut from a Non-Traditional Grape is definitely their biggest achievement so far.
During the championship, all stages are judged totally blind – the wines are poured into coded glasses before being served, and the judges do not see any of the bottles, not even covered ones.
The Kreinbacher 2013 Prestige Brut in Magnum did not only win the world champion title, but it was also selected as the national champion in Hungary.
This means that it is also officially the best Hungarian sparkling wine you can get, so now you know which one to try next time when you are visiting Hungary.
Three other Kreinbacher wines also received praise from the judges, one received a gold medal (Kreinbacher 2015 Brut Classic – 70% Furmint, 30% Chardonnay) and two received silver medals (Kreinbacher NV Brut Classic – 70% Furmint, 30% Chardonnay & Kreinbacher NV Prestige Brut – 85% Furmint, 15% Chardonnay).
Congratulations!
