Hundreds of post offices closed in Hungary – here is the list
The Hungarian Postal Services closed 366 offices in Hungary yesterday. The measure is temporary, they said. However, they did not add when they will reopen again.
The reason is saving energy and money, which is understandable in the current crisis. However, in some places, the measures were drastic. In Szeged, for example, 12 offices closed yesterday. In the Castle district of Budapest, only one office remained open while five closed. According to the Hungarian Postal Services, the closures are temporary and will last only until the energy crisis ends.
Furthermore, the state company dismissed 300 employees. They added the people released were not staff members of the closed offices, rtl.hu wrote.
PM Orbán said in the parliament earlier that the government could not bail out the postal services struggling with debt. Therefore, they had no other option but to close the less busy offices.
But the mayor of the opposition-led 2nd district of Budapest offered the state company to pay the utilities and the rent of the offices designed to close. However, Gergely Őrsi received no official answer to his letter and the offices closed there.
