The Hungarian had been on the run for four years, prompting speculation that he may have sought refuge in Hungary. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) asked the Hungarian authorities for help in tracking him down at the beginning of this year.

He was eventually arrested in Győr on March 17, when it emerged that he had lived in the city for two years.

In the early hours of August 28, Hungarian police officers handed him over to representatives of the US authorities at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport. The defendant is being taken to Florida before being transferred to a correctional facility. The US proceedings against him can therefore continue while he remains in custody, the statement said.
