Budapest, September 22 (MTI) – The Hungarian ambassador in Zagreb has submitted a diplomatic note of protest to the Croatian foreign ministry on the instruction of Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, the ministry said on Tuesday.

The diplomatic note of protest is in connection with the Croatian ministry’s offer to reopen the main Serbian-Croatian border crossing on condition that the Serbian authorities direct migrants towards Hungary.

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic discussed the matter with Szijjarto by phone and they were in agreement that the Croatian request was unacceptable under European norms.

Hungary is calling on Croatia to return to European standards of behaviour, and register and offer care services to migrants, the ministry said in its statement.
