Hungarian foreign minister opposes guest workers from this country
The Hungarian government wants to definitely avoid a situation where Ukraine’s fast-tracked accession to the European Union would make Hungary a destination for hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian guest workers and a “gateway for the Ukrainian mafia”, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, said on Tuesday.
Speaking before a public forum in Tiszaújváros, in north-eastern Hungary, Szijjártó cited the Ukrainian president as saying recently that the majority of Hungarians supported his country’s accession to the EU, adding that it was the Hungarian people, not Volodymyr Zelensky, who would decide on Ukraine’s membership.
“It’s clear that the Hungarian member party of the European People’s Party, Manfred Weber’s subordinates, meaning the Tisza Party, supports Ukraine’s EU accession, but the opinion of the Hungarian people won’t be decided by Tisza or Volodymyr Zelensky, but the Hungarian people themselves,” Szijjártó said.
“That’s why we call on everyone to take part in the 2025 referendum, in which all Hungarians … can have their say on Ukraine’s fast-tracked EU membership,” he said.
Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian guest workers would come, says FM
Szijjártó said fast-tracking Ukraine’s accession would result in Hungary’s job market being “flooded by hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian jobseekers” and Hungary “becoming the Ukrainian mafia’s gateway … to Europe”.
“But there are two things we definitely don’t want,” he said. “We don’t want to become a target for hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian jobseekers, and we don’t want to become a gateway for the Ukrainian mafia”.
“The Hungarian people can prevent this, since Ukraine’s fast-tracked accession requires a unanimous vote, and a unanimous vote requires Hungary’s vote as well,” Szijjártó said, adding that Hungary’s vote in Brussels would reflect the outcome of the referendum.

No shortage of horror stories from Fidesz politicians about Ukrainian accession to the EU. They are relentless. Of course Fidesz tells you it is only milk and honey should Serbia join.
usual non objective, populistic and sad story telling. Generalise for a whole population is also symptom of ignorance. We know several Ukrainian who are really great and good people. Of course, within any group of people, there are some who are good and some who are less good.

NEVER heard it in any of the Prime Ministers “mate” supporter of Victor Orbans LEADERSHIP – especially “His Blessing” of support to Orban – on Immigration – Migration Policy’s – coming from the Roman Catholic Cardinal of Hungary – Peter Erdo.
Never heard him PREACH – talk nor COMMUNICATE – as did His Holiness – Pope Francis – that :
” We must RESPECT each other.

All foreigners would like to go to rich countries, like france, Germany, even UK, Aymnybody who wants to go to Hungary is either someone who doesn’t know the country or someone who wnats to jump from Hungary to a better place. Hungary has nothing to offer to foreigners
I would think that Hungarians would be happy to have similar ppl to themselves in the EU to confront the WOKE ideology and side with family oriented morals. I know some Ukrainians and they are hard workers, lovely ppl who are kind, love their children & don’t want sexual exploitation or other ‘modern’ brainwashing to be part of their lives.
As for criminal types, that is what laws are for, to prevent settlement of such groups. Open borders make it more difficult but the willingness if individual Hungarians to become involved in crime for easy money or bad lifestyle choices is something that all other citizens always need to speak up about & turn pple in rather than stick head in the sand, which enables bad behaviours.
