Ferencváros were surprisingly held to a goalless draw away at Puskás Akadémia but nearest challengers Haladás could only gain a point at home to Vasas so the capital city’s lead at the top is still 11 points. Elsewhere, there were wins for struggling Békéscsaba and highflying Honvéd and draws at Paks and Újpest.

Puskás Akadémia, coached by former Real Madrid player Robert Jarni, defended stoutly to secure their point against the league leaders and could even have won the match had László Lencse’s shot hit the target. In the end they had to withstand late pressure from Ferencváros for whom in-form striker Dániel Böde nearly scored, but his header was well saved by PAFC goalkeeper Krisztián Pogacsics.

Szombathelyi Haladás therefore had the chance to close the 11-point gap on Fradi at the top but they could only draw 1-1 at home to lowly Vasas, Bálint Gaál’s 52-minute opener being cancelled out late by a penalty from former Haladás striker veteran Krisztián Kenesei which leaves Vasas hovering just outside the NBI relegation zone. They are now above last season’s champions Videoton though who lost again, this time against basement club Békéscsaba 2-0 thanks to first-half goals from Ádám Viczián and Calvente. There are now only two points between these two teams at the foot of the table.

In the only derby of the weekend in Budapest Újpest and MTK played out an entertaining 2-0 draw, the visitors coming back from 2-0 down after goals from Újpest’s Mbaye Diagne and Bardhi to score through Sándor Torghelle and József Kanta and secure the point which keeps them in fourth position, level on points with Debrecen who drew away at Paks. László Bartha had given Paks an early lead but Tibor Tisza equalised for Loki in the 63rd minute to ensure Paks remain one place below them in the table on 13 points. The team keeping MTK out of the top three are another of their Budapest rivals Honvéd for whom Richárd Vernes and Dorde Kamber scored, the latter a last-minute winner, to leave Diosgyőr, for whom Dávid Brczi had earlier equalised, pointless and firmly ensconced in mid-table on 11 points.

Next week is the last round of fixtures before the next international break and features Diosgyőr v Haladás, Debrecen v Újpest, Békécsaba v MTK, Vasas v Paks, Videoton v Puskás Akadémia and Ferencváros v Honvéd.
