Liverpool have signed another Hungarian player, with 19-year-old midfielder Farkas Patrik securing a professional contract with the Premier League club. Farkas returns to Merseyside as a free agent from Blackburn Rovers, having previously spent time in Liverpool’s academy between 2021 and 2022.

From Szeged to Liverpool

Farkas began playing football in Szeged before moving to Kecskemét and subsequently continuing his development in England. After his first spell at the club, he joined Blackburn’s academy and became a free agent this summer, as per Liverpool FC.

The midfielder has now returned to the Reds and was already included in the U21 squad for a Premier League 2 match on Monday. Although his professional contract does not make him a member of Liverpool’s senior first team, the U21 side represents an important pathway towards the club’s senior squad.

‘A dream come true’

Farkas described his return as a dream come true. “I’m very happy and can’t wait to get started,” he said, according to the club’s official website. “I’m happy to be back in Liverpool. There are some new faces, but it’s good to see old friends again and get to know everyone else.” The 19-year-old describes himself as a box-to-box midfielder capable of playing in several positions.

His brother as also at the club

Farkas is not the only member of his family at the club. His younger brother, Erik Farkas, plays for the U18 side. The 17-year-old has made an impressive start to the season, scoring twice and providing an assist in his first two matches. Patrik said the brothers have played together since Erik was four and continue to push each other to improve.

Another Hungarian at Merseyside

Farkas Patrik joins Dominik Szoboszlai, Milos Kerkez and Ármin Pécsi among the Hungarian players currently linked with Liverpool. Pécsi is on loan at Austrian club Hartberg. With Patrik now beginning his professional journey at the club, Liverpool’s connection with Hungarian football continues to strengthen.
