Hungarian House Speaker meets Czech counterpart in Budapest
Budapest, April 20 (MTI) – House Speaker László Kövér met Milan Stecht, his Czech counterpart, for talks on subjects including cooperation in connection with Brexit as well as issues around border protection in Budapest on Thursday.
At a press conference after the talks, both parties praised bilateral parliamentary relations and noted dynamic business ties.
Kövér said the Czech Republic, Hungary’s “honorary neighbour”, was Hungary’s seventh largest trading partner, with an annual trade turnover of 8 billion forints (EUR 25.5m).
Stecht noted that parliaments of the two countries saw eye to eye in most questions, including ones impacting the whole of the European Union.
Parties at the talks urged a common European stance concerning Brexit, to protect the rights of Visegrad Four citizens in the UK, Stecht said. Concerning border protection, he said that aid should be provided in the homelands of migrants and urged efforts to resolve problems locally.
