Hungarian peacekeepers can be expelled from Bosnia since PM Orbán works on the country’s disintegration

PM Viktor Orbán is a strong ally of Milorad Dodik, the President of Republika Srpska, a Russia-ally who supported the invasion of Ukraine and campaigns against the existence of Bosnia and Herzegovina and would tear his state out of the federation. Hungarian media wrote that the Croat member of the Bosnian presidency, Željko Komšić, would like the Hungarian forces out from the peacekeeping EUFOR Althea mission because the Hungarian government is no longer a non-aligned player in the country but a supporter of Dodik’s policies.
Orbán government no longer neutral, supports President Dodik
Telex, a Hungarian media outlet, wrote a long article about the problems with the Hungarian participation and the Orbán cabinet’s Balkans policies. We’ve summed up the key points of their in-depth analysis.
The general idea of the European Union’s peacekeeping EUFOR Althea mission is to preserve peace in the war-torn developing country, populated by Muslim Bosniaks, Roman Catholic Croats and Orthodox Serbs, following the violent Balkans war in the 1990s. Following the Dayton Peace Agreement, Bosnia and Herzegovina has become a federal state supervised by a non-Bosnian citizen. Currently, that official is Christian Schmidt, a CSU politician, whose nomination was challenged by Russia, China and Republika Srpska in 2021. Probably that is why Milorad Dodik did not consider his decisions. As a result, the Bosnian Serb leader was sentenced to 1 year in prison and was banned from holding public office for six years. The sentence is not legally bound but sparked outcry in the republic.

We wrote HERE that Dodik told the media before the court sentence that there were 300 Hungarian counter-terrorism agents in the country to train with Serbian counterparts. Interestingly, Bosnian border police knew only about 70 Hungarian agents then. Many regard their presence as a demonstration of power and support towards Dodik and his scheming against the country’s unity. Dodik has been speaking about the dissolution of Bosnia for decades. He regularly slammed the USA and its ambassador. In return, Washington and London put him on sanctions lists.
Budapest is an active player in the region
Following Hungarian Foreign Secretary Levente Magyar’s remarks about Western states trying to destabilise the country earlier this week in Banja Luka, the capital of Republika Srpska, Komšić’s advisor, Slaven Kovacevic, informed the Hungarian envoy that “Bosnia and Herzegovina would not grant entry permits for Hungarian military police forces in the future. Additionally, Bosnia and Herzegovina will request the removal of the Hungarian contingent from EUFOR’s ALTHEA mission, citing concerns over Budapest’s involvement in the country’s internal affairs.” The number of Hungarian soldiers serving in Bosnia and Herzegovina is 400, and Hungary has been one of the most active countries in the mission for the last two decades.

Magyar added that Hungary had become an active player in the region and stood up against forces causing destabilisation. According to Telex, the only destabilising factor in Bosnia and Herzegovina is President Dodik, a close ally of President Putin, who turned his people against NATO and the European Union. 58% of the Bosniaks and 52% of the Croats support their country’s EU and NATO accession, while that rate is only 8% among the Serbs. Meanwhile, PM Orbán regularly highlights that his administration is a strong advocate of Bosnia’s EU accession. Telex believes that is because he would like to win a reliable ally in Brussels.
Would PM Orbán redraw the Western Balkans borders?
The leadership of Bosnia and Herzegovina believes that Hungary is no longer neutral in the country’s domestic affairs since PM Orbán and his government openly back Milorad Dodik, who struggles to tear away his country from the federation.

Probably that is why Magyar’s plane was not allowed to enter Bosnian airspace on Monday, so he could only travel to Banja Luka to hold a press conference with Dodik. The Hungarian foreign ministry said a visit to Sarajevo is being organised.
In 2021, a mysterious document was revealed by Slovenian Necenzurirano about radical changes concerning the Western Balkans borders. It presented the creation of Greater Serbia, Greater Albania and Greater Croatia, with only a tiny Bosnia. Back then, Slovenian PM Janez Janša sent the document to EC president Charles Michel. Croatian and Bosnian news outlets wrote that one of the plan’s supporters was PM Orbán.

Fidesz is a proxy for the Russian foreign ministry in the Balkans. Russian interests are to promote separatism in Republika Srpska and undermine adherence to the Dayton Agreement. Bosnia should not in any way allow Hungarian military agents to conduct activities with Serb forces because Hungary is not neutral. The history of unrepentant Serbian perpetrated genocide in that country makes Hungarian intervention on the side of genocidists quite immorally distateful but being immoral is par for the course for the Orban government.
The news is out now Orban sent TEK forces dressed as civilians to Republika Srpska to extract Dodik out and bring him to Hungary through Croatia if an arrest warrant was issued. The info leaked out pretty quickly and the Croatians were waiting. One thing for certain now is that Hungarian troops will become persona non grata anywhere in the Balkans other than Serbia. The deployment of 280 Hungarian troops was made just three days ago to Kosovo for a five month mission. If they are not told to return home this will probably be the last Hungarian mission there. Orban has now been put on display as a Russian skunk.
Territories inhabited by Serbians belong to Serbia.
That territories are part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Serbians are in Serbia, Bosnian Serbs are in Bosnia. This is probably Serbian bot payed to mislead your readers in Hungary. Bosnia je nezavisna i cjelovita . Članica Un -a .
If territories occupied by Serbians belong to Serbia then territories occupied by Hungarians belong to Hungaru.
Throughout human history lands changed hands all over time for a variety of reasons. They included war, population migrations, change of allegiances, and even trade.
This business that borders are immutable and that territorial integrity of countries inviolate is a very modern invention. It makes no sense even for ethnically homogeneous countries, let alone artificial creations like Bosnia-Herzegovina. If a large part of that country wants to be a part of Serbia, let them join Serbia, for Pete’s sake already!!!
Sandzak neka pripadne Bosni pošto tamo 100% žive samo Bošnjaci.
Bosnia is independent state . Member of UN.
Serbia and Bosnian Serbs are not Russia with military power to change borders like in Ukraine.
Keep dreaming. Ima ko Bosnu braniti.
