Two Hungarian couples make history with double wedding at Mount Everest base camp

Hungarian weddings several kilometres above sea level: in a heartwarming and unprecedented event, two Hungarian couples tied the knot at Mount Everest’s base camp, 5,360 metres above sea level. The remarkable ceremony, which took place on 19 May 2025, has captured the imagination of adventurers and romantics alike.

Love at the top of the world

The story was first shared by the Instagram page “Female Yeti”, which documented the extraordinary wedding. Not only did one, but two couples—Kriszta & Gergő from Ócsa and Bogi & Attila from Transylvania—exchanged vows in the shadow of the world’s highest peak. The ceremony was officiated by a Buddhist monk from the base camp, adding a spiritual and local touch to the occasion.

An international team effort

Organising a wedding at such an altitude is no small feat. The event was made possible with the help of two experienced Everest expedition Sherpas, a local mountain guide, and the base camp manager, who is also a close friend of the organiser. The couples and their guests had already been trekking for eight days before reaching the Gorak Shep teahouse, where the celebrations began with music, dancing, and laughter—despite the group not having had a proper wash for a week, spirits were high and the excitement was palpable.
