Two Hungarian couples make history with double wedding at Mount Everest base camp

Hungarian weddings several kilometres above sea level: in a heartwarming and unprecedented event, two Hungarian couples tied the knot at Mount Everest’s base camp, 5,360 metres above sea level. The remarkable ceremony, which took place on 19 May 2025, has captured the imagination of adventurers and romantics alike.

Love at the top of the world

The story was first shared by the Instagram page “Female Yeti”, which documented the extraordinary wedding. Not only did one, but two couples—Kriszta & Gergő from Ócsa and Bogi & Attila from Transylvania—exchanged vows in the shadow of the world’s highest peak. The ceremony was officiated by a Buddhist monk from the base camp, adding a spiritual and local touch to the occasion.

An international team effort

Organising a wedding at such an altitude is no small feat. The event was made possible with the help of two experienced Everest expedition Sherpas, a local mountain guide, and the base camp manager, who is also a close friend of the organiser. The couples and their guests had already been trekking for eight days before reaching the Gorak Shep teahouse, where the celebrations began with music, dancing, and laughter—despite the group not having had a proper wash for a week, spirits were high and the excitement was palpable.

A ceremony to remember

The wedding itself took place on the Khumbu Glacier. The Buddhist ceremony was complemented by a traditional Hindu blessing, making the event even more colourful and memorable. After the formalities, the brides tossed their bouquets, and the group enjoyed a lively music and dance party. The wedding party consisted of both Hungarians and Nepalis, all of whom successfully reached the base camp to witness the historic event.

“Oxygen level only 52%, but mood 110%!”:

A once-in-a-lifetime adventure

The organiser, beaming with pride, shared:

“We made history with the biggest wedding ever at Everest base camp—and not just one, but two at the same time! Organising this was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, and honestly, I loved every minute of it.”

Congratulations to the happy couples

Both couples have now etched their names into Everest’s long history—not for conquering its summit, but for celebrating love in one of the most breathtaking settings on Earth.

Congratulations to Kriszta & Gergő and Bogi & Attila on their unforgettable Everest wedding!
