Hungary expresses condolences to Macedonia

Budapest, August 9 (MTI) – Parliamentary speaker László Kövér has expressed condolences to Macedonian counterpart Trajko Veljanovski over the tragic consequences of recent extreme weather conditions and flooding in Macedonia.

Kövér’s letter addressed to Veljanovski was made available to MTI by parliament’s press office on Tuesday.

“On behalf of parliament and myself, I would like to express my deepest shock and extend my sincere condolences after witnessing the tragic consequences of the extreme weather and resulting floods that hit the Macedonian Republic. We share the bereavement of victims’ acquaintances and friends,” Kövér said.

A storm hit Macedonia on Saturday evening, involving strong winds, floods and landslides. At least 21 people died and dozens were injured, including 22 in hospital with fractures and bruises. The youngest victim was seven years old.
